he Australian Weighing Equipment group employs over 60 people and has a strong emphasis on engineered solutions.

t was established in the early eighties by brothers, Trevor & Jeffrey Baillie.  Trevor & Jeffrey had their roots in the mines at Broken Hill in  far western New South Wales where they completed electrical and boiler making trades respectively.  They left the ‘hill’ after the local mines fell on hard times due to the depletion of resources and low mineral prices.  Trevor under took and completed an electrical engineering degree and thereafter worked for an instrument company in surburban Sydney.  Jeffrey worked as non destructive testing officer in  Gladstone Queensland.  They joined forces to to set up a engineering focussed weighing company with Trevor supplying electrical Knowledge and Jeffrey mechanical experience.  The union and obvious flare they both had for engineering secured their new company, Australian Weighing Equipment, a niche in a multi-national dominated industry.   Since the humble beginning in the early eighties  Australian Weighing Equipment and our sister company Rite weigh Scales have become a major players in the weighing and packaging industries. 

he directors are still active engineers in the company and their children have assumed diverse roles in administrative, sales,  and engineering ensuring a path forward for at least the current generation.

Timeline;

1981:     Partnership. Jeff & Trevor Baillie

1982:     Launched fork lift weighing  product “freight Mate”

                Launched “legal loader” electronic fork lift weighing product.

1985       Incorporated.  Australian Weighing Equipment Pty Ltd.

                1^st employee, electronic technician

1986       Moved to a strata unit in punchbowl, Sydney.

                2 additional employees - 1 secretary & 1  boilermaker.

1990       Turnover reached 1 million.

                Moved into larger premises in Villawood.

                Loadcell manufacturing and testing facility opened

                Launched “weight master” forklift weighing products

                Employees = 10

1998       Opened branch office in Melbourne. Victoria.

2000       Moved to larger premises in Fairfield east, NSW

2002       Acquired Rite Weigh Scales Pty Ltd to strengthen Victorian & Qld presence.

                Acquired larger premises at Tullamarine Vic.

2003       Acquired Bradwood Packaging P/L as design house for increasing packaging machine sales.

2005       Turnover reached 5 million

2007       Acquired adjoining property in Fairfield as a facility for weighbridge manufacture.

2008       Acquired larger premises in Springwood, Qld
